The Mansfield Lady Tigers do it again! On Halloween Eve, the Lady Tiger senior girls volleyball team captured their second consecutive class 2A State Championship with a convincing 3-0 sweep of Life Way Christian.
The tricks and treats this time of year have been kind to Mansfield. It was one year and one day ago that Mansfield won its first dip into the class 2A volleyball pool. That 2020 state title was against 2A West Conference Runner-up Lavaca. This 2021 state championship was also against a 2A West Runner-up. Life Way Christian, who upset Lavaca in the semi-finals of both the district and state tournaments, woefully found Mansfield sporting its seasonal state champ costume.
Mansfield junior Natalie Allison took Most Valuable Player honors as announced by the Arkansas Activities Association. She stood out in multiple ways throughout the state tournament but her serves, sets, and spikes drew particular attention.
Seniors Haylee Helms and Kiara Thomas were terrific with timely defense from the back row. Junior Madelen Jones was outstanding through her assists at the net. Juniors Skylynn Harris and Brooklyn Adams dominated above the net while sophomores Alyson Edwards and Kynslee Ward powered the middle.
Mansfield finished the regular season as the number one seed out of the 2A West conference. The Tigers swept their four game slate at state with an amazing 12-0 record.
That post-season journey started in Quitman, Arkansas and ended at the Hot Springs Convention Center. Along the way, Mansfield derailed Yellville-Summit, Conway Christian, Thaden, and Life Way Christian in consecutive order.
The Lady Tigers are coached by Kaylie Pyles and assisted by Brandi Heydenreich. The complete roster included Trinity Triska, Chloe Jones, Sadie Roberts, Rachel Johnson, Cassidy Carlton, Alayna Turner, Ambria Whitaker, Seven Sanderson, Serenity Brunson, and Cole Smith.
