Mansfield had a fun filled Saturday as the senior girls cross country team picked up another championship. At the 2A-4 District Meet in Magazine, the Lady Tigers posted a perfect score and dominated with another league win.
The Lady Tigers placed the top six runners and tallied a perfect 15 point score for the win. Senior Darby Jones led the pack with Laney Wood, Jadelynn Wood, Faith Rainwater, McKenzie Griffin, and Trinity Triska close behind.
After Magazine’s Elizabeth Merritt split the difference, Mansfield also followed with Hope Rainwater, Ashley Martin, Addie Bowman, and Aidan Fildes in order.
Jones led from start to finish while posting an uncontested 20:49 mark along the speedy 5K course. Laney Wood, just a freshman, bettered her previous senior high time by over a minute with a 21:36 clocking. She was the second place finisher.
The Tiger hit parade got off to a good start as Mansfield’s junior boys also won their second consecutive conference meet. Eighth grader Josiah Fildes was the overall champion running away with the title in 8:38 for the 1.5 mile course.
The junior team didn’t score perfect but they were close. The crew took all of the top 10 All-Conference medals except 3rd and 7th place.
Jonah Martin had his best day pushing the pace for the third place medal. His mark was 9:19. Gunner Williams (4), Holden Powers (5), and Rylan Nichols (6) rounded out the Tiger scoring.
Joseph Carter, Braxton Bartlett, and Leland Powell anchored the final three All-Conference positions.
Mansfield’s junior girls fell to host Magazine for the top spot in conference. The MHS prep team had a limited roster for the morning’s first race and finished as conference runner-up after winning it a year ago.
Trinity Triska took third overall in the junior girls race before she doubled up to compete as a high school entry some 30 minutes later. Addie Bowman (8), Aidan Fildes (9), and Ashley Martin (10) came within the Top 10 all-conference honors. They too moved up to compete with the high school players later in the day.
Azlynn Stover posted the young team’s final points. She was 11th in the split divisional race and 26th overall.
The senior girls also won the overall regional championship as the 1A and 2A West districts joined the 2A-4 District at the Magazine hosted event.
Jones was the overall winner among all classes, and was top billing on the All-Region team. The Wood sisters, the Rainwater sisters, Griffin, and Triska were also named to the All-Region team.
Mansfield’s senior girls advance to the state finals in Hot Springs on Thursday, November 4. They will run at 2 PM.
