Tigers Collect Medals at Hainley Sr. Relays

Posted Date: 04/18/2019

The Mansfield senior high track athletes found medal rewards at the Gaile Hainley Relays in Waldron on April 11.

Haylee Buckner, Renden Emery, Makayla Strutton, Sara Willadsen, and Brooke Wright collected the bulk of the Mansfield medals.

Buckner did so at the high jump. Emery impressed at the triple jump. Strutton found a medal over the 300m hurdles. Wright was worthy from the discus ring. Willadsen found hers at two different vertical events.

Emery was the highest scoring Tiger male. The sophomore took second place with a 39’ 3” triple jump. He was fourth at the high jump with a 5’ 8” mark. He collected a pair of sixth place stats in the 100m hurdles and 200m dash. He was also seventh in the 300m hurdles.

Willadsen placed in five events for the Lady Tigers. She went bronze medal in the pole vault and was a silver medalist in the high jump. The Mansfield senior placed in three sprint races as well. She was fifth in both the 100m and 200m dashes. She was the lead leg to the fifth place 4x100m relay.

Lennon Woods, Delilah McKusker, and Strutton joined Willadsen for the sprint relay.

Strutton reduced her time in the 300m hurdles to a competitive 53.22 clocking. That time placed her as the bronze medalist. She picked up an eighth place ribbon in the 200m dash breaking the 30 second barrier for the first time this season.

Buckner posted a 4’ 8” mark in the high jump for a third place tie. The senior had gone 4’ 9” earlier in the year at Booneville.

Wright suffered through some shoulder soreness to get third in the discus. The 82’ 9” measure was well below her usual standards prompting the Mansfield coaches to shut her down for the night. Typically, the sophomore would have produced in the shot put as well.

Bri Sanderson grabbed a pair of fourth place awards for the Tiger men in the shot and discus. Teammate Jacob Brown caught a pair of sixth place ribbons in those same two events. Haylie Burns scored eighth in the women’s shot.

Victor Steffen scored for Mansfield in the high jump with a new personal best of 5’ 6”. Alyssa Berry and Darby Jones gained the distance points for the Mansfield women while Woods scored sixth in the 300m hurdles.

Berry placed seventh a day later in the pole vault as a small group of specialist participated in the Van Buren Pointer Relays on April 12.
